It’s been a whirlwind few days for Andy Cohen. Just a few days ago, on Monday, February 5, the beloved TV host welcomed his baby boy, Benjamin Allen Cohen, into the world via a surrogate. As a single dad, Andy’s journey to fatherhood wasn’t exactly traditional, but in a heartfelt and candid interview with People, he shared just how grateful he feels about the incredible experience—and the amazing surrogate who made it all possible.
From Concept to Reality: Andy’s Journey to Parenthood
For Andy, becoming a dad wasn’t just about fulfilling a personal dream—it was also about navigating the complexities of surrogacy. “I worked with an incredible surrogate,” he told People. “She was based in California, where surrogacy is not only legal but also viewed as a gift. Surrogacy is illegal in so many states, including New York, and I just don’t get it. It’s a voluntary process, after all.” Andy went on to explain that his surrogate saw her role as giving him the ultimate gift—life itself. “She gave me life. I’ll be forever indebted to her,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
But it wasn’t just the surrogate who made this journey special. Andy also expressed how lucky he feels that the embryo that became Benjamin was successful, with no complications along the way. “It was such a smooth process, and I’m just so grateful for it,” he added.

Meet Baby Benjamin: A Day to Remember
When baby Benjamin arrived, Andy was in the delivery room, ready to witness the miracle of life firsthand. And let’s just say, he wasn’t expecting what he saw. “I had been hoping he would have a full head of hair, and boy, did he over-deliver,” Andy joked. “The first thing you see is that head of hair coming out, and I was amazed.”
But the surprises didn’t stop there. Andy also recalled the moment he cut the umbilical cord—a moment he’ll never forget. “He was so alert for the first two hours,” Andy said, his voice filled with wonder. “His eyes were wide open. He didn’t cry; he was just calm. I kind of have no words for it. It was like he knew he was here, and he was ready to meet the world.”
The Moment It All Clicked
For Andy, the journey to fatherhood wasn’t just about the delivery room—it was about the moments leading up to it. He opened up about the day he first learned he was going to be a dad. “I was shooting the Southern Charm reunion, and we were on a lunch break,” he recalled. “My surrogate texted me a video of the first sonogram. I was in my dressing room, in tears. That was the moment for me where I was like, ‘Whoa.’”
It’s clear that Andy’s journey to fatherhood has been nothing short of transformative. From the incredible surrogate who made it all possible to the miraculous arrival of baby Benjamin, every step of the way has been a gift—one that Andy is determined to cherish forever.
We couldn’t be happier for Andy and little Benjamin. Wishing them nothing but love, joy, and countless amazing moments ahead!
