Let’s talk about George Clooney, the Hollywood icon who's making a triumphant return to television after his memorable run on ER. Fans have been patiently waiting for his next big move, and now it’s here: Hulu’s highly anticipated miniseries Catch-22, based on the iconic novel by Joseph Heller. Surprisingly, George doesn’t seem overly concerned about whether he’s working on the big screen or the small one.
During a recent TCA Winter Tour session for the show, Clooney shared his thoughts: “I just care about the quality of the work, and what we’re able to achieve. Television these days is doing some truly incredible things. Right now, we’re working on an eight-part series about Watergate... We just want to keep creating great content.” So, if you're curious, check out the trailer for George’s new show Catch-22 below!
What’s Catch-22 All About?
Hulu describes Catch-22 as the story of Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier during World War II. He's frustrated because thousands of people he's never met are trying to kill him. But guess what? His real problem isn’t the enemy—it’s his own army. They keep increasing the number of missions the soldiers must fly to finish their service. If Yossarian tries to avoid his military duties, he’ll violate Catch-22, a hilariously twisted bureaucratic rule. It states that being concerned about your safety in the face of real and immediate dangers is a sign of a rational mind. So, if a soldier willingly continues to fly dangerous missions, they're considered insane. However, requesting to be excused from duty proves they're sane, which makes them ineligible for relief from duty. Confusing, right? That’s the genius of Catch-22.

George Clooney’s Take on Catch-22
When asked about the project, George Clooney said, “It was incredibly exciting to see why this story has endured and stood the test of time. What really drew me in was how the characters unfolded in this version. Initially, I was hesitant to take it on because it’s such a beloved novel, and I didn’t want to get caught in the middle of that. The book was Joseph Heller's response to the Korean War, set in World War II, but it resonated deeply with the Vietnam generation who embraced it as an anti-war book.”
“There’s no way you can tackle this project half-heartedly,” he continued. “War is a grim business. The story was designed to mock all the red tape and bureaucracy of war, highlighting its absurdity. I think it still resonates today. All of us spend our days and nights worrying about these kinds of situations. This story is a reflection of the madness of war.”
