The legendary actress recently took home another well-deserved award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for The Wife at the 2019 SAG Awards on January 27. And guess what? Right after her big win, the 71-year-old powerhouse opened up about the secret to her incredible success in an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly.
Now, when Glenn was asked to share one of the most significant life lessons she’s learned throughout her illustrious career, she didn’t hesitate to say, “That’s daunting. Isn’t it?” She went on to elaborate, “In a very compelling way, yes. I’ve always approached my craft with seriousness, and I’ve always believed that I needed to make choices based on deeply personal and subjective reasons.”
Her Selective Approach to Roles
Glenn made it crystal clear that she doesn’t just jump into every role that comes her way. “If I ever chose a role thinking it would win me an award or make me a ton of money, I was wandering off the path,” she confessed. “At the end of the day, what truly defines us as individuals is what makes us unique. To be able to approach something personally and to master the art of stepping into someone else’s shoes—I think that’s the ultimate actor’s rule that I live by. If I believe in it, I just hope others find it good enough to watch.”

Her Acting Inspiration
Glenn also revealed the source of her acting inspiration. “This here is my grandmother’s wedding ring,” she told People, pointing to the stunning diamond on her finger as she walked the red carpet before the awards show. “She had dreams of becoming an actress, but I only learned about that after she passed away. She never would have been allowed to pursue that dream. I feel like I carry the torch for the women in my family who were amazing mothers and wives but could have had more opportunities for personal expression.”
