Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 2006, when Dame Helen Mirren delivered a breathtaking performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the critically acclaimed movie The Queen. On Good Morning Britain, Helen Opens Up About Her Royal Encounters

Fast forward to January 31, 2019, when the 73-year-old Oscar-winning actress appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss her prestigious award as the Prince’s Trust Mentor of the Year for 2019. During the interview, she was asked whether Prince Charles ever brought up the fact that she played his mom in the movie. Helen laughed it off and said, “No, that’s never mentioned… he’s too tactful.” But guess what? Both Prince Harry and Prince William have made lighthearted comments about it to her. They’ve been super cool and playful about the whole thing, which speaks volumes about their sense of humor and easygoing nature.

Harry’s Awkward Gaffe: Calling Helen 'Granny'

Helen then went on to share a funny yet slightly embarrassing moment involving Prince Harry. She recalled, “I think Harry once at an awards ceremony said, ‘And granny is here.’ I must admit, I was rather insulted by that. Really!” Can you imagine? Being called granny by one of the most famous royals in the world—awkward much? But hey, it just goes to show how close-knit and humorous the royal family can be.

  • During the same interview, Helen also had some kind words for Meghan Markle. She praised the Duchess of Sussex for handling her transition into royal life with grace and poise. “Right from the moment that relationship was revealed, she has conducted herself with incredible self-restraint, elegance, discipline, and simplicity,” Helen said. “I was an admirer from the start. It’s an incredibly difficult life to lead—talk about pressure—but I think she is doing it with great elegance.”

The Queen Steps In to Help Harry and Meghan Settle In

And speaking of royalty, the actual Queen Elizabeth II seems to be doing her part to support her grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, in their new chapter. Not only has she gifted them Frogmore Cottage as their family home, but she’s also offered them a selection of art pieces to decorate their space. According to a source, “Meghan and Harry have been told they can choose some artwork for [their home]. They have been presented with a list of paintings that would be available to them, and they are making up their minds as to what they would like to hang in their new home.” Talk about royal treatment!
