We all go through tough times, but when Kathleen Turner recently sat down with the Daily Mail, she shared her deeply personal struggles with rheumatoid arthritis—a battle she’s been fighting since 1992. The legendary actress, known for her fierce performances on screen, revealed that she’s been dealing with "constant pain" and how it’s impacted her life in ways many of us can’t imagine.
Now 64, Turner opened up about the emotional toll of this chronic condition. "Waking up with that deep bone ache is very depressing," she confessed. "I had some tough times. Last year was hell because my medication stopped working. I’m now on something that seems to be working better, but I’m still in constant pain." Her honesty is a reminder that even the strongest among us face battles that aren’t always visible to the outside world.

Struggles Beyond the Pain
Kathleen’s battle with rheumatoid arthritis hasn’t just been physical—it’s taken a toll on her mental and emotional well-being as well. The chronic inflammatory disorder affects many joints, including those in the hands and feet, and has caused her to gain weight, leaving her feeling insecure about her body. "I’m much too heavy. Every time I look in a mirror I think I’ve got to lose weight! I try to eat healthily. I work out. But I can’t seem to shift it," she admitted. It’s a struggle that many of us can relate to, but for Kathleen, it’s compounded by the pain and limitations of her condition.

She recalled a time when she was more at peace with her body. "When I was younger, I was happy with my body. I was a great athlete. It was never about how it looked to me. It was about what my body would do. If a director said, ‘Jump across the room, now!’ I could do it and that was exhilarating." But when rheumatoid arthritis struck, everything changed. "The first doctor told me I’d be in a wheelchair. That was terrifying, and I got rid of that doctor," she said. "But I’d never realized until that point how entirely my confidence was based on my physicality. It was terribly hurtful, very frightening. It was a helplessness. And I’m not good at feeling helpless."

A Mother's Legacy
Through it all, Kathleen is learning how to love herself again and is determined to be the best role model she can be for her 31-year-old daughter, Rachel Ann Weiss. "Be brave," Kathleen told Closer Weekly when asked what advice she’d give her daughter. And Rachel has spoken fondly of her mom, saying, "She’s always taught me there is no halfway. You must invest yourself fully." It’s a testament to Kathleen’s strength and resilience, even in the face of adversity.
