Angelina Jolie Reveals How She’s Raising Her Children: ‘I Don’t Want

As a mom of six energetic kids, Angelina Jolie has had plenty of opportunities to refine her parenting philosophy. During a candid interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today on December 28, the celebrated actress shared her thoughts on raising children, and it’s clear she’s not into the "perfectly behaved" mold. Instead, Angelina embraces her kids' individuality and encourages them to carve their own paths. She values their spirited nature and sees it as a strength rather than a challenge.

“My kids all have this wonderful rebellious streak. They're curious, adventurous, and full of life,” Angelina shared warmly. “I don’t want them to be perfectly behaved little people who just say what’s absolutely appropriate because I say so. They need to discover who they truly are. That’s what growing up is all about.”

At 43, Angelina is the proud mother of Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. While she loves talking about her children, her conversation with the BBC also delved into her humanitarian efforts and even hinted at a potential political career. Angelina is no stranger to making waves, and it seems her impact might extend beyond the screen and into the political arena.

When host Justin Webb asked Angelina what inspired her to dive into humanitarian work, she credited her kids. “Children have this incredible ability to make you grow up,” she explained. “They bring out the wild side in you, and they challenge you to see the world differently. My kids have been my biggest teachers in this journey.”

Despite transitioning from Hollywood stardom to working with organizations like NATO, Angelina says her core values haven’t changed. “I’ve always been a bit of a rebel. I love standing up for what I believe in, even when it’s tough. I’ve always valued bravery and authenticity. And honestly, I don’t think I’ve changed much. I’m still that same person, just with a little more experience under my belt.”

When it comes to politics, Angelina isn’t ruling anything out. “If you asked me 20 years ago if I’d ever consider running for office, I would’ve laughed,” she admitted. “But I’ve always said I’ll go where I’m needed. If the country feels I could make a difference, I’d be open to it. Though, I do joke that I’m not sure I have any skeletons left in my closet—there’s nothing left to hide!”

Angelina also opened up about her work with the United Nations, where she serves as a Special Envoy. “Right now, I’m doing what I feel can truly make a difference. I work closely with the UN to help people in need, and I’m in a unique position where I can get things done without needing a title or focusing on personal policies. For now, I’m happy to stay behind the scenes and let my actions speak louder than words.”
