In a candid conversation with The Sunday Times, the 44-year-old actor opened up about his most recent role in "Vice," where he played the infamous Dick Cheney, and how it made him reconsider the toll these changes take on his health.

A New Perspective on Physical Transformations

In the interview, Bale discussed his journey to portray Dick Cheney, which required a significant weight gain. "I really bulked up, especially around the neck," Bale explained, describing the lengths he went to for the role. He even consulted with doctors to ensure he was eating the right foods to gain weight without jeopardizing his health. "They'd guide me on the proper nutrition to avoid, well, dying," joked the Oscar-winning actor. But as Bale delved deeper into this transformation, he began questioning whether he could continue putting his body through such extreme changes.

During the process, Bale reached out to fellow actor Gary Oldman, who had recently portrayed Winston Churchill. "I called Gary to ask how much weight he put on for his role," Bale shared. "He told me he didn’t gain any weight." Bale was surprised, especially since he had already gained 20 pounds. "I felt a bit silly, but I decided to continue down this path," he admitted. However, Bale confessed, "I can't keep doing this. I really can't. My own mortality is staring me right in the face."
