In the world of celebrity, fame often comes with the assumption that everyone feels like they know you personally. Jennifer Lopez recently shared her thoughts on this phenomenon during an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s February 2019 issue. The superstar revealed that being in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems, especially when strangers feel entitled to judge her as if they’re close friends.
At 49 years old, J.Lo has faced her fair share of criticism over the years. "You're trying your best, giving everything you've got, but people are tearing you down or spreading rumors that you're not a nice person or that you're a diva," she admitted. "And I always find myself wondering, 'Who exactly are you talking about?'"
Living Under the Spotlight

Even after more than three decades in the entertainment industry, Jennifer hasn’t become immune to the pressures of fame. "It's tough when people constantly tell you that you're not good at what you do or question why you're successful," she explained. "Women face this scrutiny far more than men. It's a double standard that can be exhausting."

Dealing with Criticism
Despite the success of her latest project, the movie Second Act, which resonated with fans, Jennifer acknowledged that there will always be critics who doubt her abilities. However, instead of letting negativity bring her down, she chooses to lift herself up. "The thing about people, especially women, is that you can have a dozen compliments, but that one negative comment tends to stick in your mind," she said. "It took me a while to realize, 'Wait a minute, I'm not lying to myself. I've been doing this for years. This isn't a fluke. I worked hard to get here.'"

When I started this run I thought omg 15 shows in 27 days that’s a lot… but I made a promise to myself that instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it…I will work out and be in the best shape of my life… There were moments I was tired and there was travel and I had to fit in my workouts where I could… but here we are with only 3 shows left!! And I am having so many emotions but mostly just feeling strong, happy and grateful!!! #allihavefinal15 #3showstogo #we’renotdoneyet #letsgoooo #makepromisestoyourselfandkeepthem @phvegas
Jennifer shared her approach to dealing with critics: "So finally, I tell myself, 'Congratulations, Jen. You're doing great, baby. Give yourself a break.' It's important to celebrate your own achievements without arrogance. You deserve it."
