Leslie Jones Speaks Out About The New Ghostbusters Movie

Let’s talk about someone who’s not afraid to call it like she sees it. Leslie Jones, the hilarious and fearless Saturday Night Live cast member who starred in the 2016 all-female Ghostbusters reboot, has some strong feelings about the new Ghostbusters movie in the works. This upcoming film is set to pick up where the original 1989 sequel left off, ignoring the universe of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, the movie that featured Leslie alongside Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Melissa McCarthy. That’s right—it’s like her version never happened.

Leslie isn’t one to hold her tongue, and she made her thoughts crystal clear on Twitter back on January 19. In a series of tweets, she expressed her frustration, saying, “So insulting. Like f–k us. We didn’t count… Those women ain’t Ghostbusters. Ugh. So annoying. Such a d–k move. And I don’t give a f–k, I’m saying something!!” Leslie’s words resonated with fans who felt the new film disregarded the hard work and creativity that went into the all-female reboot.

Now, here’s the thing: while it’s understandable to feel a little miffed about not getting a sequel, Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, actually had some nice things to say about the 2016 film directed by Paul Feig. According to Entertainment Weekly, Reitman praised the reboot, saying, “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them.”

But here’s the kicker: the new movie will stick to the original Ghostbusters universe, continuing the storyline from the first two films. It’s like Leslie and her crew never even existed in this version of the Ghostbusters world. Oof, that’s gotta sting.
