In fact, even some of her former co-workers were in the dark about it. According to Patti, she once received a car as a gift from a famous friend who had no idea she couldn’t operate a vehicle.
The Richard Pryor Story: A Gift That Missed the Mark
Patti recounted a hilarious story from years ago when she was on tour with the legendary comedian Richard Pryor. “Many years ago, Richard Pryor and I were on tour together, and he didn’t think he was paying me enough money,” Patti explained to Busy. “So he said, ‘I have to give you things.’ He gave me a sauna, which he sent to Philadelphia, along with diamond bracelets. Then he had me go pick out a car for his aunt in Detroit.”
When Patti chose a beautiful blue-gray car for Richard’s aunt, he asked her to sit in the car and turn on the ignition. That’s when things got interesting. “I said, ‘What’s the ignition?’” Patti recalled with a laugh. “So he said, ‘Just try,’ and he bought it, saying, ‘This is your car.’ And I said, ‘Thank you, Richard, but I can’t drive.’” It’s moments like these that remind us why Patti is such a beloved figure in the entertainment world—her humor and authenticity shine through in every story she tells.
Busy Steps In to Help Patti Out
Luckily for Patti, she doesn’t have to worry about a ride to her upcoming LA show in March, because Busy sweetly offered to drive her to the venue. “Can we drive one of your cars because I have two little kids and mine generally smells like old food?” Busy joked with Patti, who replied, “I could care less.
