Prince Philip's Driving Habits Raise Concerns: Former Royal Protection Officer Weighs In

Let's talk about Prince Philip, shall we? At 97 years old, he's still out there driving around by himself, even after a recent car accident. Now, that's what I call bold. But former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe isn't exactly thrilled about it, calling Philip's decision to drive alone "crazy." It seems like someone needs a little reminder about safety, right?

Back on January 17, Prince Philip found himself in quite the predicament. He was involved in a pretty serious accident where his Land Rover flipped over after colliding with a Kia. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. The Kia was driven by a 28-year-old woman, who had a 48-year-old passenger and a 9-month-old baby in the car. Despite the chaos, Philip somehow managed to escape unscathed, which some might call nothing short of miraculous. But let's not forget, accidents like this can have much worse outcomes.

According to Wharfe, people might be underestimating just how dangerous this situation was. "This could have been a quadruple fatal accident," he told People in a recent interview. "Had his car stayed upright, surely the driver in the Kia would have died." It's a chilling thought, isn't it? It makes you wonder—why take such risks when you're royalty and have access to all the help you could possibly need?

Wharfe also revealed that Queen Elizabeth's husband isn't exactly the easiest person to work with. Philip, it seems, likes to do things his own way, and that includes driving alone without wearing a seatbelt or taking a bodyguard. "To go on his own and not wear a seat belt and not take a bodyguard is crazy," Wharfe added. It's not just about convenience—it's about safety.

Wharfe elaborated, saying that if a bodyguard had been present, this accident might have been avoided altogether. "Had the bodyguard been there, with experience, this accident would never have happened. The bodyguard would have said, 'Hang on, sir, watch the car.' He would have blown a gasket, but he wouldn’t have hit the car," he explained. And it's not just Wharfe who's concerned—Queen Elizabeth herself isn't exactly a fan of Philip's driving habits. As royals author Ingrid Seward put it, "He always drove really fast, and she hated it, and he would say, 'If you don't like it, you can get out.'"

    A Royal Couple's Dynamic

This insight into the couple's dynamic after 71 years of marriage gives us a glimpse into their personalities. While Queen Elizabeth might not be a fan of Philip's driving style, it's clear that they've maintained a strong and sometimes humorous relationship over the years. But as Philip ages, it's only natural for concerns about his safety to rise. After all, he's a national treasure, and we all want to see him safe and sound.

As of now, there's no word on whether the Duke will reconsider his decision to keep driving alone, but let's hope he does for his own well-being. After all, we don't want to see him in harm's way, and neither does the rest of the world.
