Alex Trebek's Battle With Memory Issues: Health Scare And What's Next

Alex Trebek Reveals He Was Tested for Alzheimer's Disease After

Let me tell you a story about a man who became an icon in the world of game shows. You know him as Alex Trebek, the legendary host of Jeopardy!. But there's more to his life than just trivia and suits. Recently, Alex started noticing something was off with his memory. He wasn't recalling things as quickly as he used to, and that's when the alarms started ringing in his head. So, like any responsible person, he decided to get himself checked out for early onset Alzheimer’s. The first round of tests didn't look promising, as Alex confessed to Vulture in a recent interview. “The first time they tested me, they said, ‘It doesn’t look good,’” he admitted. But don't worry, folks, because further testing reassured him that he was in the clear. “Then we did more testing and they said, ‘You’re okay. No need to worry.’”

Memory Lapses and the Decision to Test

Now, Alex, at the age of 78, started experiencing memory lapses that were hard to ignore. It began with something as simple as his beloved crossword puzzles. “I love doing crossword puzzles, and recently I’d be looking at a clue, it’d be 23 across, and I’d be trying to fit the answer into 26 across. I was always off,” he recalled. That's when he realized something wasn't right. The man who's known for his sharp mind and quick wit felt the need to get tested for early Alzheimer’s. It was a brave move, showing his commitment to his health and well-being.

Acknowledging the Inevitable

With the initial concern from the doctors about his memory, Alex wasn't exactly surprised. After all, he's 78 years old. “It’s natural. I’m 78. It’s not like this happened at 50,” he said with a calm demeanor. Alex has always been pragmatic about his health, understanding that time moves for all of us. “When it’s clear that it’s time for me to go, I’ll go,” he stated with a sense of acceptance. His words reflect a man who's come to terms with his mortality, choosing to live each day with purpose and gratitude.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Alex has faced a health scare. Back in October 2017, the Canadian-born star had to undergo surgery to remove blood clots in his brain after a fall. It was a tough time for Alex and his fans, but he pulled through with determination. The host was off filming Jeopardy! for a couple of months, but he made a triumphant return in early 2018. In a video update, he assured everyone that his “prognosis is excellent.” This resilience is a testament to his character and the love he has for his work and audience.
