When the holidays roll around, most people are buzzing with excitement about gift exchanges and decorating their homes. But for legendary R&B singer Patti LaBelle, the true magic lies in quality time spent with family. In a recent interview with People, Patti revealed how her two granddaughters, Gia, aged 3, and Laila, just 1, have completely transformed her holiday experience. These little bundles of joy have added a whole new dimension to her celebrations, making the season even more special.

Embracing Chaos with Love: Patti LaBelle on Raising Her Granddaughters

For Patti, the arrival of her granddaughters has changed everything, especially the way she approaches the holidays. This Christmas marks a milestone as it’s Laila’s very first Christmas. And when Gia and Laila visit, Patti doesn’t shy away from the inevitable chaos. Instead, she embraces it wholeheartedly. “Any day they come over, they turn my house upside down. They grab my jewelry, play with everything, and sometimes they even break things,” she shared with a laugh. “At first, I thought I’d lose my cool, but now, I don’t mind at all! I let them get away with things I wouldn’t let anyone else do. They can make a fool of me on holidays, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Hosting the Holidays: Patti LaBelle’s Thanksgiving and Christmas Plans

Patti is no stranger to hosting grand gatherings, and this year is no exception. For Thanksgiving, she’s preparing to host a dinner for 20 family members. But wait, that’s just the start! Come Christmas, Patti plans to open her home to around 150 guests. While her family often offers to help with the cooking, Patti insists on doing most of the work herself. However, there’s one special exception: her granddaughter Gia. “When the kids come over, Gia, my oldest, always wants to help in the kitchen,” she joked. “And I let her, even though she gets her little hands all dirty. I cook it and eat it anyway because, hey, it’s all part of the fun!”

Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth: Patti LaBelle’s Kitchen Rules

One thing Patti is adamant about is keeping her kitchen her own domain. She firmly believes in the old saying that too many cooks spoil the broth. “I like to do everything myself because when others get involved, they start suggesting things like, ‘I want to add this to the macaroni,’” she explained. To keep her recipes pure and untouched, Patti playfully tells her family to “stay away!” whenever they offer to help. But don’t get her wrong—she loves having them around; she just prefers to handle the cooking herself.

“If you want to help, just chop up some onions or prep ingredients on the side, then leave the kitchen to me,” she instructed with a smile. “Let me cook and prepare everything by myself. I’ve got this!”
