Take a moment and picture this: two of the most beloved morning show anchors, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, balancing their professional duties with the joys and challenges of motherhood. As they cover the Olympics in South Korea, they're miles away from their families. In a recent heartfelt interview, the co-hosts of the "Today" show opened up about what it's like to be away from their kids during such a significant event.
Moms First, Anchors Second
Savannah Guthrie, a proud mother of two—three-year-old Vale and one-year-old Charley—shared her feelings during the interview. “You know, it’s an adjustment, no doubt about it,” she said. “When you’re a mom, your heart is always where your kids are. You can’t help but think about them, even when you're surrounded by the excitement of the Olympics.”
For Hoda Kotb, the separation is especially tough as her daughter Haley Joy celebrates her first birthday on Valentine’s Day. “Savannah’s daughter just FaceTimed her, and it was the cutest thing,” Hoda revealed in a chat with Entertainment Tonight. “She was playing Bananagrams, spelling words—it was just this magical moment. Those little moments sustain us when we’re away. You get one of those, and you're reminded why it’s worth it.”

Supporting Each Other Through It All
Both Savannah and Hoda have found solace in each other during this challenging yet exhilarating time. “We’re lucky; we don’t travel this often,” Savannah explained. “This is unusual for us to be gone for so long. But we’re holding onto each other, having a great time, and staying in the moment. And we can’t wait to race home to our babies.”
Even their colleagues recognize the bond and excitement they bring to the table. In a past exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Katie Couric praised the duo, saying, “I did it for 15 long years and really loved it, but it’s nice to pass the torch. These two are incredible.”
The Olympic Spirit
And as you might expect, Savannah and Hoda are fully embracing the Olympic experience. “Hoda is totally in her element because she’s everyone’s greatest cheerleader,” Savannah said. “She gets to know the athletes and their families, and we all do, and we really love that.”

She continued, “We’re all on the same team, rooting for Team USA. The Olympics are always a cultural event because we’re all watching, all in it together. We care, we root for the same team, and I hope that feeling really lasts.”
