Showrunner Krista Vernoff shared that the team worked diligently to ensure this storyline was handled with care. “We worked very hard and very closely with Alex and GLAAD on this storyline,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “The scene in which Casey disclosed to Bailey that he was a ‘proud trans man’ was rewritten more times than anything else — we wanted it exactly right. We wanted the audience to connect with this character before learning about his private medical history, making his disclosure genuine and heartfelt when he felt safe sharing it.”
