A Life Dedicated to Making a Difference
Katie and Jay's love story began in 1989 when they tied the knot, eventually welcoming two daughters, Ellie Monahan, now 26, and Carrie Monahan, now 22. After Jay's untimely passing in 1998, Katie's life took a new direction. Her experiences with loss, including the passing of her sister Emily Couric from pancreatic cancer in 2001, fueled her passion to become a powerful advocate for cancer research and education. In an interview, Katie shared her hope that Jay would view her work in cancer advocacy as meaningful: "I hope he would think that the work that I’m doing – whether it’s in colon cancers or in other cancers, to save future Jay Monahans from experiencing the same fate that he did — is worthwhile and important."
New Beginnings, Yet Keeping Memories Alive
Life moved forward for Katie, and in 2014, she remarried, this time to banker John Molner. A source close to the couple shared with Closer Weekly, "Katie and John are so happy. They really enjoy each other’s company, and Katie loves having a partner to come home to and have date nights with." Despite her new chapter, Katie remains deeply connected to Jay's memory. In a touching interview, she revealed, "I think about him all the time. We still have photos of Jay all over the place and I try to keep him alive in our day-to-day interactions. I honored him by raising two pretty great kids who have a lot of him in them."
