Let's talk about the legendary Anjelica Huston, who became a household name portraying the iconic Morticia Addams in the beloved The Addams Family franchise. Her on-screen chemistry with co-star Raul Julia was unforgettable, but what about her personal life? Away from the cameras, Anjelica found true love with her late husband, Robert Graham. Let’s dive into the fascinating story of this remarkable couple and explore the life of the man who captured Anjelica's heart.
Who Was Anjelica Huston’s Husband, Robert Graham?
Before meeting Robert, Anjelica Huston shared a lengthy relationship with the legendary Jack Nicholson, lasting from 1973 to 1990. That relationship ended, and two years later, the Academy Award-winning actress married Robert Graham, a celebrated sculptor. Robert, originally from Mexico, attended San Jose State University in California, where he honed his artistic talents. After completing his studies at the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute, Robert's work quickly gained international recognition, with his sculptures gracing galleries worldwide.

Robert and Anjelica tied the knot in 1992 and settled into a home in Venice, California, which Robert himself had built during the early '90s. As a supportive partner, Anjelica stood by Robert as he embarked on several ambitious projects, including the creation of The Great Bronze Doors at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles in Los Angeles. Robert also made a cameo appearance alongside Anjelica in the 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. From his first marriage to Joey Graham, Robert was a proud father to his son, Steven Graham.

When they weren’t working, Robert and Anjelica enjoyed spending time together in more laid-back pursuits. Anjelica, who had purchased a horse ranch in the '80s, introduced Robert to horseback riding. She even bought him a horse so they could share this hobby together. However, as she recounted to Vanity Fair in February 2010, Robert wasn’t exactly cut out for riding. “He looked so beautiful on the horse. It was as if he was a natural rider,” Anjelica recalled. “So, I took him riding up in the hills, and we found ourselves on the edge of a precipice. And it terrified him! He never rode again. He liked the horse, though. He used to enjoy looking at her.”
How Did Robert Graham Pass Away?
In the months leading up to his passing, Robert was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Tragically, he suffered a heart attack at the age of 70 on December 27, 2008. Anjelica opened up about her husband’s sudden death during a March 2012 appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight. She described the heart-wrenching experience of watching him battle illness. “I didn’t know what was going on … He got through nine weeks in the hospital, and then came out and was in rehab and then came home. … Then, he just started to die and there seemed to be nothing that we could do, just to be there and hold his hand,” she shared.
Even years after Robert’s passing, Anjelica continues to cherish the memories they created during their 16-year marriage. In a May 2019 interview with Vulture, she expressed her enduring love for her late husband. “I miss Bob a lot,” she said. “I think about him very often, yes.”
