On February 18, the talented actress took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her incredible role as LaVona Harding in I, Tonya. But that’s not all she did that evening. In a move that only someone as bold and confident as Allison could pull off, she spent part of the night chatting with Prince William and Kate Middleton—without shoes. Yep, you heard that right. She ditched her heels because, well, who likes walking around in heels all night, right? And if anyone can get away with exploring London's Royal Albert Hall barefoot, it's Allison Janney.
Now, here’s the funny part. Allison met the royal couple, and guess what? Kate was not only in heels but also pregnant. “I did meet Kate and William, and she was in her heels and pregnant, so I felt like a bit of a wimp that I was there in my bare feet,” Allison confessed on The Late Late Show with James Corden on February 22. She went on to say, “She was in full-on heels, and she was my height when I was in my bare feet. It was kind of extraordinary that she’s that tall.” Allison, ever the comedian, even told Kate she should take her shoes off since she’s pregnant. Awkward? Maybe. But it was definitely memorable.

Breaking Royal Etiquette: Allison Calls Kate "Honey"
But the fun didn’t stop there. Allison revealed that she accidentally broke royal protocol during her conversation with the Duchess of Cambridge. Instead of using the formal "Your Royal Highness" or "Ma'am," Allison casually referred to Kate as "honey." "That might not have been royal etiquette," she admitted. But honestly, who can blame her? Winning a BAFTA is a big deal, and the excitement can make anyone lose their cool for a moment. I doubt Kate minded—she’s known for being down-to-earth and approachable.
Allison Weighs In on Kate’s Dress Choice
After the ceremony, Allison also chimed in on the buzz surrounding Kate’s choice of a green dress instead of the expected black. In an interview with Digital Spy, Allison expressed her admiration for the Duchess. “I would never judge anyone’s choice,” she said. “I think she looked absolutely beautiful, and I’m so happy for her. She’s an extraordinary woman. She can wear whatever she wants to wear.” And let’s be honest, Kate always looks stunning, no matter what she chooses to wear.
