Clint Harp's Journey From Doubt To Stardom: The Untold Story

Clint Harp From "Fixer Upper" is Getting His Own Show | Clint harp

Hey there, friends! Let's dive into the incredible journey of Clint Harp, the talented woodworker behind those stunning furniture pieces you've seen on HGTV's Fixer Upper. As Chip and Joanna Gaines' best friend and go-to carpenter, Clint has been transforming spaces for years. Now, he's stepping into the spotlight with his very own show on DIY Network. But how did he get here? Let me tell you—it's a story worth hearing.

Clint Harp, now 40 years old, remembers the day he met Chip Gaines like it was yesterday. It happened at a gas station during a moment of uncertainty in his life. At the time, Clint had walked away from a six-figure job in medical sales, leaving him financially strapped and questioning his decision. “We were broke, living in a tiny apartment with two kids, and I didn’t even have a proper shop set up,” Clint recalled in an interview with DIY Network. Chip mentioned that his wife, Joanna, wanted to expand her product line to include furniture. Clint jumped at the opportunity, but Chip hinted at something bigger. Turns out, Chip was absolutely right. Let’s take a closer look at Clint’s inspiring journey!

Clint and Kelly: A Love Story That Began at Baylor University

Clint and his wife, Kelly, met while they were both students at Baylor University. Their bond was instant, and they tied the knot shortly after graduating. The young couple lived in Houston, Texas, for a while before deciding to return to Waco, Texas, where Clint’s woodworking dreams would eventually take off. Together, they’ve built a beautiful family with three amazing kids: Hudson, Holly, and Camille. Their journey is proof that love and teamwork can conquer all challenges.

The Sticker-Covered Table Leg That Changed Everything

One of Clint’s first breakthroughs came from an unlikely source—a table leg covered in stickers. Clint recounted a day when he spent nearly the entire day crafting what he thought was a subpar table leg. Frustrated and feeling like a failure, Clint leaned the leg against the wall in his workshop. That’s when his kids came in and plastered it with colorful, encouraging stickers. Little did he know, this quirky, sticker-covered leg would become the star of Magnolia Farm’s tables. When Joanna Gaines saw it, she fell in love instantly. “That’s it. I love it! Use that for the Magnolia Farms tables,” she declared. Sometimes, life works out exactly the way it’s meant to.

Joanna Gaines Designed Their Dream Home—but Privacy Issues Led to a Move

Joanna Gaines designed Clint and Kelly’s stunning home, which quickly became a local attraction. Clint shared his experience with CultureMap Dallas: “I’d be out playing with my kids in the backyard, and strangers would wander around, waving at me. It was great, but we needed more privacy for our family.” Despite the move, Clint and Kelly still cherish their original home, now rented out to visitors through Airbnb. It remains a testament to their friendship with the Gaines family.

A Presidential Connection: Clint’s Grandparents and Jimmy Carter

Clint’s family has a fascinating connection to President Jimmy Carter. His grandparents were close friends with the former president, inspiring Clint to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. “It was such a meaningful way to give back, honoring someone who’s meant so much to our family,” Clint shared with the Midland Reporter Telegram. This connection not only deepened Clint’s passion for carpentry but also reinforced his commitment to helping others.

“Wood Work”: The Show That Showcases Clint and Kelly’s True Selves

Clint and Kelly’s new show, Wood Work, is produced by the same team behind Fixer Upper—High Noon Entertainment. The pilot episode, originally titled Against the Grain, aired last June but didn’t fully capture the essence of Clint and Kelly’s partnership. “It didn’t quite show who we are—a tight-knit team of creative souls working together in Waco,” Clint explained. The new series dives deeper into their dynamic, highlighting Kelly’s contributions and the collaborative spirit that defines Harp Design Co. While they remain grateful to Chip and Joanna for their early support, Clint and Kelly are excited to carve out their own niche in the world of home design. “We’ve cried, argued, laughed, and taken leaps of faith together. And we wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Clint said.

Fixer Upper’s final season airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on HGTV. Be sure to tune in for more heartwarming moments from Clint and the entire Fixer Upper family.
