Back in the day, Diane Sawyer was everywhere you turned on TV. The iconic journalist became a household name anchoring Good Morning America, reporting as a correspondent for 20/20, and hosting ABC World News Tonight. But in the summer of 2014, Diane announced she was stepping down from her nightly news spot to focus on other projects within the network. Since then, Diane’s media presence has slowed down, but she’s still very much in the game. So, what exactly has she been doing?
Tragedy Strikes After Diane's Departure
Life took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn for Diane shortly after she left World News Tonight. In a cruel twist of fate, her 94-year-old mother, Jean Sawyer Hayes, passed away, followed just weeks later by her husband of 26 years, the legendary director Mike Nichols, at the age of 83. "Losing Mike while she was still reeling from her mother's death was an unimaginable emotional burden," a close friend shared with Closer Weekly. "But Diane has shown incredible strength and resilience through it all." Despite the heartache, Diane has carried on, proving she's not one to let adversity keep her down.

A New Chapter in Journalism
After processing her losses and adjusting to her new normal, Diane continued her work on 20/20, diving into in-depth specials that have featured some of the most high-profile interviews around the globe. Over the years, the Emmy-winning journalist has spoken with Kate del Castillo, the woman who orchestrated a secret meeting between Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and Hollywood celebrities. Diane also sat down with her colleague, Elizabeth Vargas, who bravely opened up about her battle with alcoholism. One of her most memorable interviews was with Bruce Jenner, who is now known as Caitlyn Jenner, during a pivotal moment when Caitlyn publicly came out as transgender. "I am a woman," Caitlyn told Diane, in what became a landmark moment in transgender visibility.
